Hex’d is a deck-building game with hexagonal cards, tightly integrated theme and unique mechanics. You play as ugly witches/warlocks competing to attract the affections of Friends (real people who actually care about you!) and Familiars (semi-intelligent woodland creatures, adorable cats, etc.) by casting increasingly powerful spells and conjuring (well, buying, really) obscure ingredients to expand your rituals.

Instead of traditional action-point-counting (Dominion, Tanto Cuore) or unrestricted play (Ascension, Marvel Legendary), the play of your cards is controlled by (and sometimes depends on) their physical layout – cards are played in a “honeycomb” layout, with additional restrictions based on card “colour”. As you accumulate resources on a turn, there are additional “Sorcery” spell effects you can cast that have instant effects, without playing an actual card.

More surprises are in store for players, depending on the Component cards on the board. In addition to the staple mechanics of the genre, cards can get flipped over (cancelling ongoing effects, but making it easier to play cards nearby and protecting them from rotation), rotated (effectively stealing or donating them, and changing who is affected by ongoing triggers), played on your opponent’s turn (interfering with the layout, among other things), locked away in a Gallery (temporarily or permanently, with varying effects), and more.
